GIOTTO- He was born in 1267, in a village name Colle Di Vespignano. He was an artist in a Gothic period of time, the Roman Empire was near to fall. He worked in Assisi in the church of St. Francis. He begin his most important work in Padua, the decoration of the Scrovegni Chapel, in 1303. He worked in Florence and some other places but none of his work remains from those places. According to historian he died at 8th January, 1337.
LEONARDO DI VINCI- He was born on 15 April, 1452. He born in a village name Vinci, in Italy. He was not only a Renaissance artist but also a architect, engineer, philosopher, paleontologist and evolutionary biologist. His first know work is a pen-and-ink drawing of the Arnovalley. The most famous work of Leonardo is Mona Lisa. He died on 2 May 1519 in Amboise.
RAPHAEL- He was born on 6 April, 1483, in Italy. His full name is Raffaello Sanzio. He was also a architect and designer. He was artist in a high Renaissance. He worked with Leonardo Di Vinci and Michelangelo and was inspired from their work. His most famous works are The School of Athens, and Madonna's. He died on 6 April, 1520.
FRANCISCO DE GOYA- He was born in a small village name Fuendetodos, in Spain, on 30 March, 1746. He was a Neo-classical and Romantic artist. He was also considered the Father of Modern Art. In 1780 the king of Spain commissioned Goya to paint an alter piece for the church. In 1785 he was appointed Lieutenent director of painting at the San Farnando Academy. One of his famous painting is Two Old Man. He became ill in the end of 1792. He ended up totally deaf and retired in 1828, and died that very same year.
VAN GOGH- He was born on March 30, 1853, in Netherlands. His father was a minister in a small town. He worked as an international art dealer. He left his work for some years, became a preacher but then he decided to become an artist. He worked in some places but he was not satisfied. He only sold one painting in his life and committed suicide. He died on 29 July 1890. The Catholic church of Auvers refuse to allow his burial in its cemetery because he had committed suicide. His funeral was held on 30 July in the nearby township of Mery.
CLAUDE MONET- He was born on November 14, 1840, in Paris, France . He enter the Swiss Academy in 1859. Monet's paintings are submitted for the first time to the official Salon. Camille Doncieux his lady friend and Bazille pose for Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe (the Picnic) in 1865. Monet exhibits "Impression : sunrise" at the first Impressionist exhibition in the studio of Nadar in 1874. He build a large studio 23m x 12m at Giverny in 1916. Claude Monet works on twelve large canvas, The Water Lilies. These are now his most famous paintings. Monet has problems with his eyesight and in 1923 he was nearly blind. His sight improves with the operation but in 1926 he suffer from lungs cancer and died on December 5th 1926.
PABLO PICASSO- He was born on October 25,1881, in Malaga, Spain. By the age of 15 he was already technically skilled in drawing and painting. He was not only a painter but also skilled in sculpture, ceramics and other art forms. His style developed of blue period to rose period and it end on cubism. By 1912 he was incorporating newspaper print, postage stamps and other materials into his paintings. This style is called collage. Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso originated the style known as Cubism, one of the most internationally influential innovations of 20th-century art. From 1925 into the 1930s, Picasso was involved to a certain degree with the Surrealists, and from the fall of 1931 he was especially interested in making sculpture. Picasso?s association with the Communist Party began in 1944. He continued his work in painting, drawing, prints, ceramics, and sculpture until his death on April 8, 1973 in Mougins, France..
SALVADOR DALI- He was born on May 11, 1904, in the small agricultural town of Figueres, Spain. His first studio was built for him by his parents and was situated in Cadaques. As a young man, he attended the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. His talent came with his first one-man show, held in Barcelona in 1925. He recieved international fame when three of his paintings were shown in the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1928. During World War II he and his wife, Gala, took refuge in the United States, return to Spain after the war's end. His international reputation continued to grow, based on his prodigious output of paintings, graphic works, and book illustrations; and designs for jewelrey, textiles, clothing, costumes, shop interiors, and stage sets. His writings include poetry, fiction, and a controversial autobiography, "The Secret Life of Salvador Dali". He also produced two films. He died from heart failure in a hospital of Figuetes on January 23, 1989.
